I’m privileged to introduce Mike Truscott to our Wishbone Ash community.
We were fortunate to work with Mike, along with Mike Sturgis and Windsor McGilvray, on the most recent U.K. tour. I’m now happy to announce that he’ll be joining us on future shows, starting this month with the band’s mammoth 43 date USA tour.
A firm friend of Mark Abrahams and also a fellow Yorkshire resident, albeit being born in Truro, Cornwall, Mike has spent most of his life working with drums, drummers, bands and even orchestras. As a teen Mike played with the City of Leeds Youth Concert Band, also worked with Mark in Coyote and he’s recorded with artists like Adam Argyle and Mark Joseph. Of late, he’s been on the sales side of things with companies such as Pearl and Yamaha, working with drummers such as Gary Husband and Todd Sucherman. As you can imagine, this work has seen him traveling the U.K. USA and Europe.
Mike is a family man “with an amazingly supportive wife” and their young son is already developing his own love of music. Mike’s number one hobby is cycling which he took up in 2012 inspired by Bradley Wiggins winning the Tour de France! He’s ridden in many places and events including the London 100, five times, with his fastest year coming in 2019 achieving the 100 miles and 5,000 feet in 4 hours and 17 minutes.
Mike: “Also in 2019 I completed the challenge Les Cingles de Mont Ventoux in France. A challenge to climb the famous Mont Ventoux Mountain, not once but 3 times in the same day using the 3 roads that lead to the summit! A crazy day that ended in high winds and rain, and after 7 hours I was glad to find a bar!”
The stamina required for this will definitely come into play on these Wishbone Ash tours now that Joe Crabtree has stepped aside and as Mike says, “…. the ultimate dep gig, when Mark rang me to cover the three Wishbone shows in Leeds, Bury and Holmfirth 2022, it was the start of my Wishbone journey, although I didn’t know it at the time!”
Join us in welcoming Mike to the party and we’ll see you all on February 23rd at our first show at The Bull Run in Shirley, Mass.
