Much of the USA is suffering an incredible heatwave as I write this. I do hope that you are managing to keep cool! As an example, Oregon reached a temperature of 113F a couple of days ago. This is unheard of, in a state where many private homes and businesses have never had the need for air conditioning. Here in Connecticut, on the East Coast, it’s no different, with temperatures hovering around 95F.
I’ve been playing a couple of Open Mic nights locally at outdoors venues, sitting in with local musicians and have certainly also enjoyed some al fresco dining. Big shout out to Luc’s Bistro in Ridgefield and Notch 8 in Bethel, Connecticut. Also, I’ve been getting out of the house and visited fellow countryman Phil Brunwin, who hails from Chelmsford, England but is a master guitar builder (acoustics) here in Betheny, Connecticut, at Betheny Guitars. So, putting the weather aside and by way of updating you, I want to let you know that all the best plans are being made to make for a busy touring season, starting in the UK in October 2021 and then on to Germany in January of 2022, followed by the U.S. We note that several British festivals have been cancelled this summer, which is a worrying trend, but we are on schedule with our tour dates particularly since the U.K. lifts all restrictions on July 21st.
Stop press! There will be a temporary change in the drum chair for half of the U.K. tour. Mike Sturgis will sit in for Joe for the 2nd half of all dates. The reason being that Joe will be a new father around that time and will obviously have his hands full with his fatherly duties! As many of you know Mike was in the band during the whole Illuminations album period back in the 1990’s and was actually responsible for bringing Joe in to replace him. We therefore couldn’t wish for a better stand-in for Joe and are still keeping it in the family, so to speak.
The tours will go under the banner of “Phoenix Rising”. We have a very cool logo design ready for tee shirts – (free to my Patreon members by the way, of course!) Just make yourself known to the merchandiser at any shows you attend. Once again the bird rises from the ashes! …….From the ashes of Covid 19 this time, and so the band lives on to fight yet another day.
Keep checking tour dates and festivals into 2022 because offers are coming in all the time. For example, we’ve just confirmed the Arrow Flashback Festival on May 27th with Status Quo in the eastern part of the Netherlands near Ulft. On November the 17th, the EMC Centre has been added to the U.K. tour schedule. That’s located in Harpenden, Herts.
Check out my Patreon site if you get a chance, where a series of videos and one on one sessions (if you wish) give you the inside scoop on all things Wishbone Ash – past, present and future.
