In the studio
Well, this is our last day in the studio (boo hoo), affectionately known as “Joe’s Garage” it really has become our little cocoon and some really tremendous musical results are coming out of these sessions (to say nothing of the gastronomical delights from the kitchen!) Working with our engineer/producer Stephan Ernst, has been fascinating. This German man is so detail orientated (now that's a surprise), it blows my mind. Working with computers (obviously) and the new all British Neve Genesys console, listening to playback through the giant PMC monitors (powered by 8 separate amplifiers) at the end of the day, has been our sonic reward. It’s great because the boffins at the Neve factory, just up the road, get to check in on a real world situation for this console despite many of these fine British pieces of kit, having already found homes around the world. Digital stuff, analog stuff, vintage guitars, tube amps and tube mikes, modern stuff, old stuff - we’ve got it all going on. In short, a bang up to date modern rock studio environment.
Now all that remains is to mix these two tracks, Man With No Name and Reason to Believe. This will be done in Germany. In fact, whichever song is selected as our single, there will probably be different mixes to choose from for downloading depending on your preference for rock or dance (yes) or whatever. The one song Reason puts me in mind of the 60’s - in fact they both do. Imagine if the Who had written a song with twin lead harmony guitars! It’s balls-out garage band stuff with ultra precise Crabtree rhythmentations and quirky guitaronomics.
