Ashcon Update
Everything is now in place for your Ash filled day at the Winding Wheel on Saturday November 3rd. As you know this show will be the finale to another successful UK tour and as usual the band will pull out all the stops at our special event.
Doors will open at noon and first on stage will be Must Ash who have once more accepted our invitation to entertain you with their tribute to Wishbone Ash.
I am also pleased to be able to announce that we have booked The Mentulls for the second slot in the afternoon. Andy Powell was blown away by this young band when they supported Wishbone Ash recently. They feature 16 year old guitar virtuoso Andrew Pipe who has only been playing guitar for four years. The band cites Wishbone Ash as one of their main influences and it will be a real pleasure to bring their music to your attention.
Wishbone Ash themselves will perform an informal instrumental set in the afternoon and this will include one or two surprise numbers never previously played by the band. Andy will also use this session to give us an insight into the background to the tunes the band perform.
The convention will also include the ever-popular meet and greet session with the opportunity to chat and have photographs taken with the band. As usual there will be merchandise and memorabilia on sale during the afternoon including the Roger Filgate Instrumental Illuminations CD, a newly re-released Live in Geneva 1995 CD and a re-packaged Elegant Stealth complete with the Rockumentary DVD. The afternoon will also include the final bidding for two very special items that have been up for auction on this tour. Joe Crabtree’s drum kit which has been used on every European Wishbone Ash gig since mid 2007. Also Andy has for auction his Duesenberg Rocket flying V guitar. The winning bids will be announced immediately after the instrumental session.
The doors will re-open at 7.30pm for the evening show. The evening support will as usual be a special treat for Wishbone Ash fans as our dear friend Ben Granfelt will be bringing his band over from Helsinki. Ben will be performing cuts from his new album “Melodic Relief” as well as some older tracks from his days with The Guitar Slingers.
Our day then reaches its climax with a full Wishbone Ash concert featuring tracks from the recent highly acclaimed Elegant Stealth as well as numbers from the bands 43 year catalogue of amazing albums. Ben Granfelt will join Andy, Bob, Muddy and Joe for a few numbers and having spoken to Andy today this will be a show not to be missed. Please remember that this whole event is put together “by the fans for the fans” and is only possible with your continued support.
